The Manchester Evening News understands the country's biggest commercial broadcaster has reached an agreement with developers Peel Holdings.
Nothing will be announced for a few weeks, according to the regional newspaper.
ITV currently employs 6,000 people, about 1,000 of which in Manchester.
The Quay Street site is home to Corrie's cobbles and used to house Manchester's Granada Studios Tour attraction.
ITV told the Manchester Evening News that the company was committed to production in Manchester.
"It's home to Britain's most successful television series."
ITV has previously told the regional newspaper it was looking at job cuts after annual profits fell by 28 per cent to £91 million last month in an increasingly competitive advertising climate.
Mediacity will span 200 acres with seven million sq ft for business, residential and retail.
It will employ 15,000 people, providing opportunities for 1,000 companies with advanced communications and studios.
