26/07/2008The Cheshire printing company that makes 60 million labels a month for Heinz baked beans has been bought by a packaging business on the Wirral.
Tipografic Print Group has taken over Buckley's Print for an undisclosed sum. The deal creates a combined business employing 200 with sales of more than £20 million.
Buckley's, which employs 110 staff, won an award last year for the quality of its label printing.
Jeff Cornell, managing director of Tipografic, said: "it was an ideal opportunity to take out our main competitor and create the biggest wet-glue label operator in the market. We have created a company called Tipografic Print Solutions to run the business and have negotiated a contract with Heinz."
Heinz itself has a major presence a few miles up the road in Wigan, where it operates the largest food-processing complex in Europe.
Tipografic is based at Twelve Quays in Birkenhead. The company also manufactures labels for high-profile brands such as Britvic and Pepsi-Cola. In addition, it owns Lancastrian Labels in Liverpool and has another operation in Blackpool which employs 35 people.
