Situated in Workington - a large town and port at the mouth of the River Derwent - the £20 million Energus centre has 6,000 square metres of floor space and will provide engineering workshops, an auditorium and meeting rooms for those training in nuclear and green technology.
It will also provide facilities for courses in energy from the nearby University of Cumbria.
The Times and Star reported that Energus is "a building that welcomes interest and gives a new legitimacy to training for careers in the nuclear and energy industry".
In other news that may be relevant for businesses investing in Cumbrian energy production, Braystones, Kirksanton and Sellafield were revealed in April as being among the 11 possible locations for future nuclear power station sites.
They were presented by energy companies on a shortlist that also included Heysham in Lancashire and that is now under review by the government.
